What People Are Saying about monster (ódjór)?

“This is perhaps the best children's horror book I've read this year, and is an incredibly creative and exciting book for middle school. The book's set-up is pretty classic. We meet Asta, who is bullied at school and would rather spend all her days up in her secret treehouse in the forest, with a book in her hand. One day, however, she meets a new girl on her way to the treehouse, and quickly wants to get to know this mysterious person better... And when she starts to explore all the unexplained floods and earthquakes in the city, she also realizes that this is not something she can do alone! Although there are sometimes spooky scenes and events in this book, it is not very scary as a whole. But it doesn't have to be! The book is super interesting, exciting and a breath of fresh air in the sometimes somewhat repetitive children's horror genre. Asta is a good character who both makes mistakes, but also develops into a better friend over the course of the story. The book is well written, and very nicely translated into Norwegian.”

”Silja Aldudóttir excels time and time again to write scenes that make the reader go: Oh no, what is Asta doing now? Or: What will happen now? What sort of monster has she discovered this time? When one challenge is settled, the next knocks on the door, and the questions of friendship and the monster’s future are constantly shaking the ground.

”… fills a gap in Faroese fiction for young readers. She takes this literature to the present time by exploring subjects relevant to the readers.

— helena kannuberg

“With a sharp pen and inspiration from her home town she has created a realistic world with a sinister atmosphere: The ground is shaking, rats are everywhere, basements are flooded, sewers  are full to the brim and a gigantic creature is demanding resurrection.”

— helena kannuberg

… it can be read by all age groups, because there is a depth in it, an ecocriticality and existential questions giving the reader something to think about and hopefully take to heart.
